Mixed Use Development, 3 Newhams Row, Bermondsey
This is a seven storey mixed use development in Bermondsey. The 4,500 square metres of building accommodation comprises apartments on the upper floors and B1 light industrial/offices on the lower floors, with car parking in the basement. The structure is a steel frame and concrete composite, fully exposed on the facades, supporting in-situ concrete slabs laid on the ‘Slimdeck’ permanent formwork system. Typical Bermondsey site conditions of thick alluvium overlaying gravel and London Clay required large diameter bored piles for the foundations.
The exposed steel frame is carefully detailed to provide a long life to first maintenance. Galvanised and then painted with epoxy intumescent paint, the paint system should last 20 years to first maintenance and the galvanising should last in excess of 80 years.
