Aluminium and Steel Staircase in Private House, Notting Hill
The context for this staircase was a private house with a minimal interior. The Architect wished for simplicity without complex detailing. Aluminium was chosen for the tread plates and hand rail because it is a good conductor and is warm to the touch. To achieve lightness a steel structure was chosen. To join these different materials without screws or rivets, requires that aluminium be glued to steel.
