Mixed Use Development, Bacon Factory Site, Great Suffolk Street, Southwark
A mixed use development for Buxton Homes, comprising retail and B1 units, social housing, and private residential flats. The site is just off Union Street in Southwark, to the east of the Blackfriars Bridge viaduct approach and all units have a west or south facing outlook. The key architectural element comprises a series of projecting balconies, off set at each floor, and clad in a copper cladding system.
The structure comprises in-situ concrete flat slabs, with an irregular column grid to suit flat layouts, and a transfer structure at first floor level to allow larger spans in the retail and B1 units. The project was completed in the summer of 2006.
