Hurst House, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire
The architectural design for this house is very much modelled on the Californian Case Study Houses of the late fifties and early sixties, and incorporates open plans and ‘inside out’ rooms formed by full height frameless glass walls. The structural form comprises a steel frame with
timber joisted floors and roof, and timber stud infill walls. The steel frame enables the long cantilevers to be created, and extends through to the external wall detailing, with steel plates
forming the support and reveals to the wall openings, and even the parapet copings.
