St Mary’s Garden Hall, Wimbledon
A new multipurpose church hall, containing a 150 square metre clear space that can be subdivided with an acoustic screen into two smaller halls. In addition there are other servant spaces within the building including kitchen, WC’s, and a small meeting room. The building has a steel frame structure with a pre-cast concrete roof to provide an enhanced thermal and acoustic performance. The building’s composition incorporates large structural glass elements and stone cladding. Because of the building’s close proximity to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club, and because of its multi function use, the construction programme was driven by fitting into the space between Wimbledon 2001 and 2002. As well as being a very successful space for the Parish, it also provides the Parish with a substantial income every year for holding activities related to the Wimbledon Championships.
